About the Programme
The STCS Vigyan Vidushi programme is a summer school intended to introduce undergraduate and first-year postgraduate women students to advanced topics in theoretical computer science and systems science. The two-week programme will be held online, and will consist of technical courses taught by faculty from STCS, TIFR. Lectures will be supplemented by problem-solving sessions, to enhance students' understanding.
The programme also aims to encourage students to take up research in these areas. To promote interactions and introduce students to life as a researcher, there will also be mentoring sessions conducted by students and faculty from TIFR and outside. A distinguished lecture series consisting of eminent women scientists will be part of the programme, to give insights into current research trends.
The programme will be organised from June 21st to July 3rd, 2021. All participation will be completely online.
The daily schedule consists of about two hours of lectures in the morning, followed by about two hours of problem-solving sessions in the afternoon. Participants will be divided into smaller groups for the afternoon sessions.
Most days will also have either a mentoring session, or a lecture by an eminent researcher.
Participants will be expected to actively attend all the sessions.
Subject to changes, the following courses will comprise the technical portion of the programme:
- Quantum computation
- Coding theory
- Decisions and Risk Models
The programme is intended for women students that have completed three years of undergraduate education in CS/EE/ECE or related fields, including mathematics and statistics. They should also have taken basic courses in linear algebra and probability. Students who have completed two years of postgraduate education by April 21st, or those who are already enrolled in a PhD programme, are not eligible for the summer school.
