Applications are invited for two research fellows to work on the following project in the School of Technology and Computer Science at TIFR, Mumbai.

Mathematical modelling and simulation of epidemic spread  in India and in the rest of the world.

The research fellows will be involved in developing methodology and simulation/mathematical models for epidemic spread. Some of the work of the project (joint with a team at IISc, Bengaluru) is available at an The project will have a research orientation and will expose research fellows to exciting and impactful applied research in modelling epidemic spread.


Excellent academic credentials particularly in mathematics and computational methods.  Strong knowledge of probability, statistics and Monte Carlo methods. Experience in statistical analysis of epidemiological data would be desirable. Strong coding ability. 



1. Undergraduate degree with a focus on one or more Mathematics/Statistics/Quantitative Biology/Computer Science. Graduates from engineering with strong mathematics aptitude are also encouraged to apply.

Desirable: Post-graduate work in one of the subjects above.

Applications from recent PhD graduates are also welcome.

2. Facility with programming, preferably in modern C++ (C++11/14), and python.

Desirable: Experience with parallel programming frameworks such as OpenMP.

Appointment  is temporary for a period of one year.

Consolidated pay of Rs.60,000/-  per month.
