SUMMARY:Concentration of Measure in High Dimensions (Part-II)
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Rakesh Venkat\nTata Institute of Fundamental Research\
nSchool of Technology and Computer Science\nHomi Bhabha Road\n\nAbstract:
\nLast time around we saw some interesting and non-intuitive behaviour of
volumes and surfaces in high dimensions. Keeping in line with this\, we wi
ll discuss the Brun-Minkowski theorem\, and use it to prove similar concen
tration results in various settings: surface areas on the n-dimensional ba
ll\, the Gaussian Measure in R^n\, and the Hamming Cube C_n. If time permi
ts\, I will mention a result on metric embeddings that relies on such a co
 ncentration of measure phenomenon.\n
