SUMMARY:Web Usage Mining and Recommender Systems
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: S.P. Mudur (Concordia University\nComputer Science and
Software Engineering\n1455\, de Maisonneuve Blvd. West\nEV 3-159\, Montre
 al\,\nQuebec\, H3G\, 1M8\nCanada)\n\nAbstract: \nWeb Usage Mining is the a
pplication of data mining techniques for discovery and analysis of user ac
cess patterns from the interaction generated by the users in the form of a
ccess logs\, proxy-server logs\, browser logs\, etc. One major application
is the use of these patterns in prediction and recommender systems to hel
p personalize user browsing tasks. Web usage mining consists of three phas
es\, namely preprocessing\, pattern discovery and pattern analysis. This t
alk will first provide an overview of the web usage mining and recommendat
ion processes\, and then briefly describe some of the issues addressed in
the research carried out with my students at Concordia.\n
