SUMMARY:Impact of Physical Layer Re-transmissions on User Experience
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Parimal Parag (Assia Inc.\n333 Twin Dolphin Dr\nRe
 dwood City\nCA-94065\nUnited States of America)\n\nAbstract: \nAbstract: T
here is an ever increasing demand for instant and reliable information on
modern communication networks. Physical layer re-transmissions can be thou
ght of as opportunistic coding schemes. However\, this results in non-dete
rministic delay added to packet transmissions. In this talk\, I first pre
sent the impact of physical layer decisions on transmit buffer occupancy.
Next\, I present the impact of physical layer re-transmissions on end-user
experience.\n\nBio: Parimal Parag received B. Tech. and M. Tech. degrees
from IIT Madras in 2004\; and the PhD degree from Texas A&M University in
2011. He was at Stanford University and Los Alamos National Laboratory\,
in autumn of 2010 and summer of 2007\, respectively. He is currently a se
nior systems engineer at ASSIA Inc.\, working on performance evaluation\,
monitoring\, and control of large broadband communication networks. His r
esearch interests include application of stochastic and optimization metho
ds to communication networks. His other research interests lie in the area
 s of statistical signal processing\, queueing theory\, information theory\
 , combinatorics\, and probability theory.\n \n
