SUMMARY:Entropy Power Inequalities: Results and Speculation
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Professor Venkat Anantharam (University of California
at Berkeley\nElectrical Engineering and Computer Sciences\n271 Coray Hall\
 nBerkeley\, CA 94720\nUnited States of America)\n\nAbstract: \nAbstract: S
hannon's entropy power inequality characterizes the minimum differential e
ntropy achievable by the sum of two independent random variables with fixe
d differential entropies.\n\nSince the pioneering work of Shannon\, there
has been a steady stream of results over the years\, trying to develop par
allels to Shannon's entropy power inequality in other scenarios\, such as
for discrete random variables\, and point processes.\n\nWe will survey thi
s landscape in this talk. We will present old results\, new results\, and
share some speculation about how to prove new kinds of entropy power inequ
 alities.\n \n
