SUMMARY:Convex Relative Entropy Decay in Markov Chains
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Venkat Anantharam (University of California\, Berkeley
 \nDepartment of Electrical and\nComputer Sciences\n271\, Coray Hall\nBerke
 ley\, CA 94720-1770\nUnited States of America)\n\nAbstract: \nAbstract: Co
nsider an irreducible continuous time Markov chain with a finite or a coun
tably infinite number of states and admitting a unique stationary probabil
ity distribution. The relative entropy of the distribution of the chain at
any time with respect to the stationary distribution is a monotonically d
ecreasing function of time. It is interesting to ask if this function is c
onvex. We discuss this question for finite Markov chains and for Jackson n
etworks\, which are a class of countable state Markov chains of interest i
n modelingnetworks of queues (joint work with Varun Jog).\n
