SUMMARY:From Theory to Reality for Universal Wireless Transport
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Rabin Patra (Tarana Wireless\nBerkeley\, California)\n
\nAbstract: \nFixed and mobile access networks are still swamped by ever-i
ncreasing demand fueled from cloud computing and video. While fiber and o
ther wired solutions are throttled by high costs\, protracted installatio
n timelines and regulatory complexity\, today's wireless technologies als
o miss the mark. Tarana Wireless has made fundamental advances made by to
offer the industry’s first practical wireless alternative to fiber for
residential\, enterprise\, and urban access. Unique multi-antenna techni
ques provide immunity to obstructions\, interference\, motion\, and unski
lled installers. Real-life deployments around the world have shown gigabi
t speeds in non-light-of-sight conditions with spectral efficiency reachin
 g 100 bits/s/Hz\, which is 20x faster compared to 4G/LTE.\n\nBio: Rabin P
atra is a co-founder of Tarana Wireless\, a startup that builds spectrally
efficient wireless access technologies. After getting his B.Tech degree i
n Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur\, Rabin obtained his
Ph.D. in Computer Science with the TIER research group at the University
of California at Berkeley. For his doctoral research\, Rabin developed low
cost long distance wireless systems using readily available 802.11 hardwa
re. Rabin connected with a number of outstanding organizations such as Ara
vind Eye hospitals and Airjaldi in India to put these solutions in action.
Rabin’s broad research interests are in building wireless technologies
with a focus on smart antenna systems and networks that have self-aligning
  and self-managing capabilities. \n
