Karthyek and Gugan win IBM Fellowship

Karthyek Rajhaa and Gugan Thoppe, graduate students in the School of Technology and Computer Science, win the IBM PhD Fellowship Award. STCS welcomes Prof. Mudur

STCS welcomes Prof. Sudhir P. Madur as as visiting professor. Prof. Mudur is chair of the Dept. of Computer Science and Software Engineering in Concordia University, Canada and will be visiting TIFR till May 2013 during his sabbatical. His research interests are in the area of graphical user interface, multimedia, software engineering and virtual reality. Prof Mudur obtained his PhD from TIFR in 1976, and was previously Director, National Centre for Software Technology (NCST) prior to joining Concordia in 2002.

Ankush Agarwal wins TCS fellowship

Ankush Agarwal, a graduate student in the School of Technology and Computer Science wins the TCS Research Scholarship, instituted by Tata Consulatancy Services (TCS). He was one of 40 students nationwide chosen for the TCS fellowship. The TCS Fellowship is given for a period of 48 months supporting graduate studies in computing sciences.

STCS welcomes Arkadev Chattopadhyay

Dr. Arkadev Chattopadhyay joins the School of Technology and Computer Science as a Reader. Arkadev's research interests are in the areas of computational complexity, algorithms, discrete mathematics and algebraic automata theory. Arkadev obtained his PhD from McGill University and was a postdoc at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Princeton and the University of Toronto prior to joining TIFR.

Girish Varma, a graduate student in the School of Technology and Computer Science wins the Google India PhD Fellowship 2012 in Algorithms. STCS welcomes Ashish Tendulkar

Dr. Ashish Tendulkar joins the School of Technology and Computer Science as a Visiting Fellow. Ashish is interested in machine learning and text mining from large data repositories.  His recent work is in the area of Computational Biology, wherein he uses machine learning techniques for addressing problems in biology. Ashish obtained his PhD from IIT Bombay and was working as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in IIT Madras prior to joining TIFR.

Dr. Vinod M. Prabhakaran joins the faculty of the School of Technology and Computer Science as a Reader. Vinod's interests include Information Theory, Communication, Signal Processing, and Cryptography. Vinod obtained his Phd from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007 and was working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinos, Urbana-Champagin prior to joining TIFR.

Vaze wins EURASIP 2011 Best Paper award

Dr. Rahul Vaze, Fellow STCS, and Prof. Robert W. Health Jr. (University of Texas at Austin) win the 2011 EURASIP 2011 best paper award. The annual award is given by the European Association for Signal Processing for the best paper that appeared in the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking. Vaze and Health Jr receive the award for their paper titled "End-to-End Joint Antenna Selection Strategy and Distributed Compress and Forward Strategy for Relay Channels" that appeared in 2009.
