Simoni Shah wins Sasken Best Thesis Award

Dr. Simoni Shah was awarded the Sasken Best Thesis Award for the year 2013-14 for her Ph.D. Thesis titled "Unambiguity and Timed Languages".The Sasken Best Thesis Award is given for the best PhD thesis of the year submitted through the Institute, based on the work done in Computer & Systems Sciences. It consists of a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a Medal. Simoni will be presenting her thesis at the the Sasken Best Thesis Award Seminar (http://www.tcs.tifr.res.in/event/sasken-best-thesis-award-seminar).

STCS welcomes Ashutosh Gupta

Dr. Ashutosh Gupta joins the School of Technology and Computer Science as a Reader. Ashutosh's research interests include formal verification, theorem proving, model checking, program analysis and constraint solving. He is a successful tool builder and he brings a strong experimental validation focus to his conceptual work with considerable impact. Ashutosh did his B.Tech from IIT Kanpur, Ph.D. from TU Munchen and was a postdoctoral fellow at IST Austria in the group of Prof. Tom Henzinger.

            With reference to your application for the post of Junior Research Fellow, I am to request you to appear for an interview at the Institute on  December 02, 2014 at 9.00 a.m. You are requested to bring along with you at the time of interview, following original certificates with copies, failing which you will not be interviewed:
1.         Certificate showing date of birth.
2.         Certificate showing educational/technical qualifications.
3.         Experience certificate/s giving full details such as position held, salary drawn, period of employment and reason for leaving etc.
4.         Referee certificates from two respectable persons.
You are required to fill-in the enclosed bio-data form and return the same to us at the time of the interview.
You will be paid single second class (not-airconditioned train fare (sleeper with reservation charges) by the shortest route from the nearest railway station of your place of residence to the place of interview and back, on production of photocopies of onward and return journey tickets.                    
 Please note that you have to make your own arrangements for your stay in Mumbai.
To reach the Institute, you may come by BEST route number 3 or 11 (from CST, Mumbai) or route number 137 (from Churchgate station) all of which terminate at Navy Nagar, close to the Institute.

Rahul Vaze's paper “On the capacity and diversity-multiplexing tradeoff of the two-way relay channel, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Vol. 57, June 2011, 4219-4234” has been accepted for the ‘Ramakrishna Cowsik Medal’.

Deepesh wins Microsoft Fellowship

Deepesh Data, graduate student in STCS, wins the 2014 Microsoft Research India PhD Fellowship. From the Microsoft Research India Fellowship webpage, "Microsoft Research India PhD Fellowships support PhD students at Indian universities while they pursue doctoral education in computer science and related areas. The fellowship is awarded to India PhD Fellows, who represent the best and the brightest PhD scholars from India." Rahul Vaze wins best paper award at NCC

"Maximizing Utility Among Selfish Users in Social Groups"
co-authored with Ashwin Pananjady and Vivek Bagaria (interns from IIT-Madras)
won the best paper award in the Networks track at the National Conference on Communications 2014 held at IIT-Kanpur.

Gugan wins IBM Fellowship

Gugan Thoppe, a graduate student in the School of Technology and Computer Science, wins the IBM PhD Fellowship Award. Ramanujan Fellow: Arkadev Chattopadhyay

Dr. Arkadev Chattopadhyay was selected for the Ramanujan Fellowship. The Ramanujan Fellowship is given by the Department of Science and Technology for attracting brilliant scientists and engineers from all over the world to take up scientific research positions in India. Arkadev is a reader at the School of Technology and Computer Science and his research interests are in the areas of computational complexity, algorithms, discrete mathematics and algebraic automata theory. Arkadev obtained his PhD from McGill University and was a postdoc at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Princeton and the University of Toronto prior to joining TIFR.

Vaze selected for INSA Young Scientist Award 2013

Dr. Rahul Vaze was selected for the INSA Young Scientist Award 2013 for his contribution to fundamental trade-offs in large wireless networks. The INSA Young Scientist award is given by the Indian National Science Academy to a young scientist (within the age of 35 years) in recognition for his/her contribution to any branch of science or technology.

Nandini Bondale's paper wins TCS CTC Outstanding Paper Award 2012

Dr Nandini Bondale's paper, mHEALTH-PHC: A Community Informatic Tool for Primary Healthcare in India, jointly authored with Sanjay Kimbahune and Arun Pande of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), was given the Outstanding Paper Award 2012 by the Corporate Technologies Council (CTC) of TCS. The paper appeared in the proceedings of the IEEE Conference on 'Technology and Society in Asia', 2012, Singapore.
