STCS welcomes Jatin Batra and Abhishek Sinha

Drs. Jatin Batra and Abhishek Sinha join the School of Technology and Computer Science as a Reader.
Jatin Batra's research interests include algorithms, optimization and learning. Jatin obtained his PhD from IIT Delhi and was a postdoctoral researcher at CWI, Amsterdam prior to joining TIFR.
Abhishek's research interests lie at the intersection of Probability theory, Stochastic control, Information theory, and Learning Theory. Abhishek obtained his PhD from MIT. He then worked briefly at Qualcomm and at IIT Madras as an assistant professor before joining TIFR.

Anand Deo and Karthyek Murthy receive honourable mention in INFORMS JFIG Paper Competition

Anand Deo and Karthyek Murthy receive honourable mention (third place) in INFORMS  Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) Paper Competition. This competition recognizes high quality work amongst junior faculty in the INFORMS community. Karthyek Murthy is an assistant professor at SUTD and is  ex-student at STCS. Anand is a post-doc at SUTD. This work was a part of his PhD at STCS, TIFR.

Shibashis wins best paper award at MFCS 2021

Shibashis Guha’s paper titled “A Bit of Nondeterminism Makes Pushdown Automata Expressive and Succinct”, co-authored with  Ismaël Jecker, Karoliina Lehtinen, and Martin Zimmermann won the best paper award at the 46th International Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science (MFCS 2021, Tallinn (Estonia), 23-27 August). MFCS is an annual conference for original research in all branches of theoretical computer science co-organized by European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS).

Prerona, Shubhada and Sayantan win Google Fellowship

Three (3) graduate students from STCS, Prerona Chatterjee, Shubhada Agrawal and Sayantan Chakraborty, win the 2021 Google PhD Fellowship in Algorithms, Optimizations and Markets; Machine Learning and Quantum Computing respectively. IEEE RTS 2020 Test-of-Time Award

The following paper authored by former faculty members of TIFR received the prestigious IEEE RTS 2020 Test-of-Time Award, jointly with three other papers.
Mathai Joseph and Paritosh Pandya, Finding response times in a real-time system, The Computer Journal, Vol.29, Issue 5, pp:390–395, 1986
When the paper was written, Prof. Pandya was a computer science PhD student of Prof. Mathai Joseph at TIFR.
